Is your fur baby suddenly reluctant to try new experiences? Or fear silly things like the garden hose or men with hats? 😦They are probably going through what is called ‘’adolescent fear period.’’ 🙏🏼⁣

Dogs undergo two distinct fear periods in their life; first one happens between 8-12 weeks old and the other at 6-14 months. During these periods, they learn to differentiate the difference between safety and danger, mixed with growth spurt and sexual maturation. There’s a lot going on internally 🐶⁣

Here are some tips to help your dog through this scary phase:⁣
⁣
1) Stay calm! Your dog is your reflection so if you’re nervous, they become nervous too 😉⁣

2) Talk in a relaxed, cheerful and reassuring tone as much as possible 💁‍♀️⁣
⁣
3) Avoid new environments and frightening experiences 🎭🎳🎰🥁⁣
⁣
4) Use positive reinforcement. Praise and reward them for good behavior 🐾⁣
⁣
5) Always ensure supervised socialization with people and other dogs 🐕⁣
⁣
6) Don’t force them into situations or people that make them uncomfortable 👩‍👩‍👧‍👧⁣

7) If all else fails, consult a professional for tips on how to help your pup cope 👩‍💻⁣

Fear period can be stressful for both pup and owner but the good news is, it’s temporary! ☺️ When handled properly, all fears will go away when the period is over.⁣
