❓Describe a day in the life of a puppy raiser for a future Canine Companion for Independence.
🅰️ As Jackie’s raiser, it is my responsibility to prepare her for a future where someone will rely on her in order to live a more independent life. My job includes teaching her specific commands and skills, but it also includes teaching her to work appropriately in any public setting that her future person might require.
I take her on outings to different places in the community so that she can get accustomed to new environments, but a large part of her training takes place on campus with other UM students. During a typical weekday, when I am in class, other miamiupup raisers spend one-on-one time with her working on the behaviors and commands that she is practicing that week. After a long, hot day, we go back to our apartment and she gets to eat, play, and sleep just like the rest of us. - Jack Dickman, '19 jack.dickman, 🐶Jackie jackie_cci .
