Coach Billy discusses the importance of some of the small details of defending individually and inviting the play to go one way (and where our “help” is) ⚽️

✅ The nearest defender puts pressure on the ball carrier
✅ That defender should be getting tight to the attacker, but not too tight (what does the distance look like?) 
✅ Be thinking about the concept of being deliberate with your movement to push the play one way and what your body shape looks like (is it square or at an angle?)
✅ If the run from the defender is directly at a player without a curved run and/or not getting close enough to the ball carrier, then that opens up another option for the attacker to play/find which we don’t want 
✅ Where is the ball being “forced” and why?
✅ The second defender, the cover, is cutting off the space behind that first defender in case that first player gets beat either with a pass or an attempted dribble
