In honor of #FHAwareness day coming up this week, I thought I’d share my story! I was diagnosed with familial hypercholesterolemia just before my 30th birthday. Up until then, I didn’t think my high cholesterol was a big deal. I eat healthy, I exercise, I don’t smoke, I’m young, etc. But then I learned that without treatment, I have a 30% chance of having a heart attack or stroke before I turn 60.

Luckily, I found the fhfoundation and got connected with a wonderful cardiologist who was able to give me a proper diagnosis and now I’m on medication to keep me healthy. The scary thing is, a lot of people don’t get diagnosed and therefore don’t get the treatment they need.
