This week Port Field Hockey unofficially opened their season with a scrimmage and a tournament. 
•
Thursday, the team traveled to Manhasset to play a friendly scrimmage. The girls worked on passing and possession. Despite not defeating the previous Long Island Champs, Port learned from the experience and prepared for upcoming matches. 
•
Saturday, the team participated in the Joan Grunebaum Tournament, a tribute to the late Great Neck Coach. The day was dedicated to cancer awareness and had a 9/11 tribute. Port Field Hockey played 5 7v7 games. In the first match, the girls faced a loss to Clarke following an injury to a key Port player. The team rallied into the second game, where they tied 1-1 with New Hyde Park. The third match against Great Neck South boosted the team’s confidence, as they defeated them with no opposing goals.

Multiple players scored their first Varsity goals, including juniors Brooke Weinstein and Gillian Landau. Fourth, the girls faced Great Neck North, with another blow away game. Finally, the team took on East Meadow, winning the final game of the day. Overall, Port Field Hockey went 3-1-1 on Saturday and had a great time playing for a great cause.
