This week, Port Baseball was able to bounce back and defeat Oceanside for their first win of the year! They would go 1-2 on the week, bringing their record to 1-5 for the year.

On Monday, the boys traveled to Oceanside to try avenge their defeat at home the previous Friday. Christian Schwirzbin would start the game on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings and only allowing one run. At the plate, he would go 1 for 3 with a 2-run home run, his first of the year! Ryan Gawley added 3 hits and 1 run, and Chris Caprariello had 2 hits and pitched 2.1 shutout innings to close out the 6-1 win.

Tuesday’s game in Farmingdale got off to a rough start, as the Vikings were down 3-0 early on. Michael Andrew would keep it within striking distance, pitching 3 shutout innings in relief. Caprariello would hit an RBI double in the sixth inning to pull the team to within two, but nothing more would come of the opportunity, and the boys would lose 3-1 in a nail-biter.

Farmingdale then came to town on Thursday, and Port jumped out to an early lead. The team would scratch across two runs in the first inning to go up 2-1 on a bases-loaded opportunity. In the third, they would regain a 5-4 lead on an RBI single from Ryan Gawley, but the lead would slip from there. The Vikings would lose 16-5.

This week, the baseball team will face Syosset for two games, hoping to put together a win streak and make a run for the playoffs!
