🙊 Free speech is perhaps the most fundamental of human rights ✊
 
Without free speech 🗣️, freedom of the press 🗞️ and freedom to protest 🛑, it is impossible to protect our other inalienable rights… It's why it’s the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States, with its authors recognising the importance of defending this idea 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
 
As someone who has also experienced the sharp end of censorship, US rapper 🎙️, actor 📺 and former London Real guest Ice T says it best in the title for his third studio album: 
 
➡️ “Freedom of speech… just watch what you say”.
 
📜 For so long, western democracies have prided themselves on enshrining these principles, while highlighting how dictatorships, totalitarian regimes and banana republics punish their citizens by cheating them out of their right to a censorship-free experience 🤐
 
🏛️ And yet, it is these very same governments who are furtively stripping away our right to be able to say what we want, with their over-regulation 🚨, pressure on social media companies 💣 and broader support for cancel culture… a lesson we found out to our cost in 2020 when our channel, London Real, found itself at the centre of a storm of controversy 📆
