Hi! I'm raventhesciencemaven and I just told a story on Emily's Instagram stories about when I was a Pre-K teacher and one of my Pre-K students tried to eat me because I am the color brown and she thought that I was made of chocolate!

In this video I teach you a little bit about the molecular biology of skin color! Feel free to visit my page to ask any questions 😊

Melanin is an umbrella term that applies to the pigments that give organisms the natural colors of their skin, fur, scales, and more!! So, although being made of chocolate sounds pretty cool, I think that the various molecules that make up our bodies are even cooler! I love molecular biology!

Eumelanin is responsible for making brown to black pigments in your body!

Pheomelanin is responsible for making red to yellow pigments in your body.

Neuromelanin is made in your brain and its exact function is still being determined by scientists! But we believe it has a role in Parkinson's disease!! All of these molecules work together to create the whole spectrum of colors that we see in organisms like humans!

I hope you learned something new today!

Don't forget to follow my page so you can learn more science, and participate in the giveaway I'm doing this week!

Thanks, Emily!! #scicomm #raventhesciencemaven #sciencemaven #sciencerules
