For the time being, this page will be used to amplify Black voices in STEM and share resources for non-Black followers.⁣
⁣
Now is a good time for non-Black individuals to think about how we're going to do more than simply put "Black lives matter" on our social media (which is a great start). But being anti-racist requires more than that. It requires action. So I wanted to share the 3 main things I'm doing at the moment. Please share what you're doing in the comments so that we can all learn from each other.⁣
⁣
Donations - I made donations to 4 different organizations:⁣
1. Center for Policing Equity - CPE is a team of research scientists, race and equity experts, data virtuosos, and community trainers that partner with police departments to diagnose the roots of disparate policing in order to eliminate them. ⁣
2. livefreeusa - Live Free is providing free masks, hand sanitizer, and testing kits for the incarcerated. ⁣
3. eji_org - EJI challenges racial and economic injustice, provides legal representation to prisoners who may have been wrongly convicted of crimes, and protects basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.⁣
4. naacp - The NAACP's #WeAreDoneDying campaign has been established to address the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on the Black community and combat the consistent mistreatment of African American communities long before there was a pandemic.⁣
⁣
Reading & Learning⁣
I've ordered 3 books to read - The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, White Fragility, and How to Be an Antiracist (these last 2 are on backorder so they may take awhile to come in) - check Bookshop.org. ⁣
⁣
Listening & Learning⁣
I've started listening to the Podcast 1619⁣
⁣
There are MANY more resources out there - I've listed a great document in my bio for non-Black individuals, mostly for white people, to check out. This is just where I'm personally starting in case you'd like to join. ⁣
⁣
Remember - don't ask your Black friends to educate you on this. There are a ton of resources out there for us to find. This is on us. ⁣
⁣
Great accounts to follow right this second⁣
