Soaking an egg in vinegar starts a chemical reaction where the acetic acid in the vinegar reacts with the calcium carbonate in the egg's shell and dissolves it away.⁣⁣

But wait, there's more!⁣⁣

Through the power of osmosis, little water molecules march into the egg from the vinegar through the egg's semipermeable membrane, to balance out the concentration of water in each substance. ⁣⁣
