Everyone. Please listen when I tell you that this is one of the coolest things I've ever done. 🌛I am in the Apollo Moon Vault where they hold all of the lunar samples from the 6 missions to the moon. It is literally a vault because they want to protect these precious rocks from everything - hurricanes and humans and everything in between.⁣
⁣
That second picture is the Genesis rock. This is one of the most famous rocks brought back on all of the Apollo missions. It's an Apollo 15 rock that is around 4.1 BILLION years old. It was nicknamed the Genesis Rock by reporters covering the story because this rock showed us a couple of things: ⁣
⁣
It provided solid evidence that the moon was essentially a large ocean of magma in its early days AND it contributed to the theory that the Moon was formed when a Mars-sized object collided with Earth during early Solar System days.⁣
⁣
The last video is me in front of one the Apollo 11 moon rocks. There's no words to describe how meaningful it felt to be so close to objects that represent so much to so many. Science, culture, exploration. It's all within a few inches of me. ⁣
⁣
Ahh, I'll never forget this day. Thanks to the Lunar Sample Lab at nasajohnson for hosting me. Check out the full story on #XplorationOuterSpace this fall.⁣
