So what changed? Becoming a mama. I knew if I didn’t get out of pain, I wouldn’t be able to keep up with Teddy. I have big plans for hiking and climbing and backpacking adventures but I saw the dreams of teaching my son to love the outdoors slipping away as I could barely walk around the grocery store! At the same time, with a toddler to keep up with (he started walking the week of surgery), I knew I couldn’t afford much downtime. Luckily, I was able to walk in a boot within days after my procedure. Keep in mind, this is my personal experience with the procedure but if you swipe you’ll see I was able to take my son to explore this sunflower field just one month after surgery. Look at my feet and you’ll see I have that walking boot on. I wore the boot for six weeks but took it off when driving, relaxing or sleeping. After the six week mark, I would occasionally put the boot back on if I had a long day at work and felt I overused my foot. During my recovery, I kept my foot wrapped with an elastic bandage, applied vitamin E oil to help minimize the appearance of scars and did some mild exercises to bend the big toe and increase mobility.
