We found that building an audience before building a problem is a huge advantage for e-commerce brands. Building an audience before building a product takes the guess work out of making a product that people will buy. One of the most successful brands that implemented this strategy is Glossier, the billion-dollar direct-to-consumer beauty brand. Founder Emily Weiss had a blog called "Into the Gloss" that amassed a 1,000,000 page views per month a year after launching the site. She went to venture capital and raised a seed round to fund her first product line, and the brand has only grown larger ever since.⁠
