## Caption

In early 2017, Bastian Schweinsteiger departed Manchester United to sign for the Chicago Fire. In his first season in MLS, Schweinsteiger was selected to the All-Star team, and he led Chicago to their first playoff appearance since 2012. His next two years at the Chicago Fire were not as successful, though, with the team missing the postseason in 2018 and 2019. During his time in Chicago, Schweinsteiger made 85 appearances for the club, scoring 8 goals and providing 15 assists. While the German icon arrived to MLS past his prime, he was still able to show some flashes of his characteristic poise in midfield, dropping back to defend with strength and providing a touch of quality in the final third. Towards the end of his spell at the Chicago Fire, Schweinsteiger lined up as a sweeper with a surprising degree of success. At the end of the 2019 season, Schweinsteiger announced his retirement from soccer at the age of 35.
