🔍The Countermovement Jump (CMJ) is the most common assessment of vertical power and jumping ability

From Lauren: So much so, there is a whole host of tools out there to subjectively and objectively assess the CMJ (obviously hawkindynamics is 💪🏾). There is a ton of research on all of the metrics we can derive from the movement and how they can apply to athletic performance. The most common questions I get are... Do you have the athletes use their arms? Does it make a difference?
.
Like always, my answer is a question in return... "Well, what are you looking for?" Personally, I will use both... Depending on the situation. In my opinion, I use the arm swing when I want to see an athlete’s strategies maximize jump effort and "vertical miming skill". But I remove the arm swing more often than not because I feel it's the most consistent for assessing lower limb function and monitoring athlete readiness
.
The results/metrics mentioned here are not universal, and just compiled from my personal trials.
How do they compare to your results?
.
Does you prefer one over the other?
.
Why do you assess the CMJ?
