This week for #HispanicHeritageMonth we are featuring Girl Scout Isabel! After her grandfather’s breast cancer diagnosis, she was inspired to make a change. This is where her idea for her Gold Award project “The One Percent” came in. Her goal?  To help increase overall awareness on breast cancer’s effects on men and help them detect early symptoms.

“Male Breast Cancer is often forgotten. Many men, when they feel a lump on their breast or any unusual change, never think of the possibility of it being breast cancer and get diagnosed at a later stage. It’s very important to create awareness.”

She is currently lobbying to make “Male Breast Cancer Awareness Day" a law in Puerto Rico. Her bill has already been approved by Puerto Rico’s Senate and House of Representatives. Isabel has continued to make great strides with her project and has also been invited (along with her grandfather) to be interviewed for Susan G. Komen’s podcast, “Real Pink”.
