How do your dining spaces reflect your social lives? Tell us about your plans for coming together with friends and family this summer. 

The objects and history featured in “The Material World of Eyre Hall: Four Centuries of Chesapeake History” shed light on the role that entertaining and gathering played in the lives of the Eyre family from the 17th to the 19th centuries. “The dinner table mirrored their social universe in miniature,” writes editor Carl Lounsbury (24). These images reflect the grand gatherings held at Eyre Hall over the centuries: a cupboard displaying the Eyre family’s finest 18th-century china pieces, and a contemporary silver display of some of Eyre Hall’s silver collection from the 17th–19th centuries.
