Looking after your mental health is always important, but this has become especially true during the coronavirus pandemic. Many people have engaged in creative activities or hobbies to benefit their overall mental well-being. Dr. William Rush Dunton Jr., the focus of our “Wild and Untamed: Dunton's Discovery of the Baltimore Album Quilts” exhibition, is often referred to as the “father of occupational therapy” because he advocated for the therapeutic value of creative, collaborative, and purposeful activities like quilting for individuals suffering from mental illness.

In recognition of May as Mental Health Awareness Month, today we are highlighting a touchless poll in the “Wild and Untamed” exhibition that asks visitors to share what creative activities have helped them during Covid-19 to stay connected and happy, and what feelings they had while performing these activities. Visitors may share their answers via text, a QR code, or a URL from their personal devices.

Take the poll and learn more about the local quilting tradition that inspired Dr. Dunton’s work in occupational therapy by visiting the exhibition Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
