Have you seen this colorful rail? Like other rails, purple gallinules have big feet with long toes that help the birds run across and balance on American lotus leaves and not get bogged down in marsh mud. These colorful birds eat flowers and fruits of aquatic plants, as well as spiders, clams, snails, frogs, and small fish.
