So close yet so far. 🚨 
Last night, as the clock struck midnight in Paris, it became evident that Luciano Acosta’s dream move to PSG would not be completed during this transfer window. After hours of grueling negotiations between D.C. United and PSG, the deal eventually fell through due to disagreements over the transfer fee for the Argentine playmaker. According to multiple reports, several Premier League clubs were also interested in signing Acosta during this transfer window. For now, though, ‘Lucho’ must return to D.C. United and rejoin his teammates in Florida for preseason training. Although Acosta failed to make the jump to Europe this winter, it’s certain that if he continues his spectacular form from last season, European clubs will come knocking at his door once again over the summer. For now, fans and players around the league should feel optimistic for the future of the league due to this spectacular saga that unfolded over the past two days. In recent years, many talented Latin American players such as Josef Martinez, Miguel Almirón, Raul Ruidiaz, and Luciano Acosta himself, all made jump to the MLS in hopes of getting greater exposure to make a dream move to Europe. With Luciano Acosta nearly completing a move to PSG and with Miguel Almirón heading to Newcastle United, the MLS seems to finally be earning a spot among the top leagues in the Americas, competitive enough to develop talent of European caliber. The recent Luciano Acosta - PSG saga will only increase the recent flow of talent to American shores.
