During his four years playing for the New York Red Bulls, Thierry Henry managed to change the course of the MLS forever. Not only did he live up to the standard of being one of the most prolific strikers the world has ever seen, but he ushered in a new era for the MLS. Players like Frank Lampard, David Villa, Kaká and most recently Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimović, all made the jump to the MLS thanks to the example that Thierry Henry laid out. The Frenchman not only showed that players of his caliber could find professional satisfaction in the MLS, but that they could also lead relatively normal lives outside the pitch. Thanks to Henry’s move to the New York Red Bulls, countless talented European veterans and international players of stature flooded the MLS, bringing greater exposure to the league as well as helping American players develop under a more competitive environment compared to a decade ago.
