Milan's Gonzalo HiguaĆ­n, had one of his most productive seasons at Columbus Crew SC in 2018. Playing as the attacking midfielder in a 4-2-3-1 system, HiguaĆ­n is normally tasked with the duties of a classic number 10: distributing the ball, dictating the pace of the game, and creating chances for his teammates. During the 2018 campaign, the 34-year-old provided 9 assists during the regular season and 1 during the post season. Despite being mostly known for his ability as a passer, Federico HiguaĆ­n was crucial in the single-game Playoff Knockout Round against D.C. United, finding the back of the net twice that evening. Thanks to those goals, Columbus was able to eliminate Wayne Rooney and company from the playoffs and advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals to face the New York Red Bulls. Against all odds, Columbus was able to win the first leg at home thanks to a brilliant HiguaĆ­n back-heel assist to Zardes for the only goal of the match. Unfortunately, Columbus lost 3-0 away from home and got knocked out of competition. Despite failing to reach the Conference Finals, Columbus Crew SC got farther than many predicted and their run in the playoffs was admirable.
