## Caption

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month – a celebration which recognizes the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. A rather broad terminology, often shortened to "AAPI," encompasses all of the Asian continent and the Pacific Islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. The commemorative month allows us to pay tribute to the generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America's history and are instrumental in its future success.

Engel & Völkers has a special relationship with the Asian American Real Estate Association of America. AREAA is a national nonprofit trade organization dedicated to improving the lives of the AAPI community through sustainable homeownership opportunities. In this post, we feature real members of the Engel & Völkers network who identify with the AAPI community in the hopes of highlighting their professional journey in the real estate industry, and better educating ourselves on serving AAPI clients and communities. 

We particularly appreciated hearing from our colleague Danny Wang at Engel & Völkers Boston, who debunked a common misconception about AAPI clients observance of Feng Shui. He gave us this great example: "If you have not broached the subject of Feng Shui yet, you can bring up the topic when you're touring a home and ask 'I learned from my last client who follows Feng Shui that the bed, desk, and stove are three most influential locations in a home. The bed represents you, the desk represents your career and the stove is your wealth and how you nourish yourself; so you want to make sure your bed, desk, and stove are all in their 'commanding' positions.' You will either receive a very impressed response, or a look of intrigue. Either way, you are not assuming anything, however, you are finding out what is important to your client."
