It’s National Hug Your Dog Day! Experts say that pet fostering and adoptions are up 700% while we’re #stayinghome. Pets are family too, and are vulnerable to the same safety risks as their humans.
#DYK 500,000 pets are injured by smoke inhalation and 40,000 die each year due to home fires? Here are some tips to help keep your 4-legged family safe: •	Home Alone - When leaving pets home alone, keep them in areas or rooms near entrances where firefighters can easily find them.
•	Chewing Cords - Some pets are chewers (especially puppies!), so watch to make sure they don’t chew through electrical cords!
•	Escape Plan - Pets should always be considered in your family’s evacuation plan, know their hiding spots! •	Keep Away - More than 1,000 home fires each year are started by our fur-ever friends. Keep curious pets away from stoves and countertops, and move items they can knock over.
•	Window Clings - Consider a window cling for your front window that shows the number of pets in the home – this helps first responders in case of emergency.
•	Check Alarms – Check your smoke and CO alarms to make sure they’re under 10 years of age. If they’re older than that, they need to be replaced.
