"I remember sitting in that purple racing wheelchair thinking, WOW, how do I propel this thing?! You’re really telling me that I have to move this wheelchair really fast all while my hands are tied up in these gloves?! At the time I think it took me about 15 minutes to make it around the track just one time! My helmet was also way too big, so I think I spent half of that session with my helmet over my eyes! Before that day, I had NO idea what wheelchair racing was or even what a racing wheelchair looked like! It was all so foreign to me and I was definitely journeying into uncharted territory.
 
“But I will never forget the rush that I had when I started to accelerate that day. The wind in my hair, the finesse of my gloves moving off of the wheels and hand rings, the acceleration out of the turns— it’s what got me hooked. I’m very thankful to that girl in the picture for her willingness to try something so unique and so out of her comfort zone.”

This sport will help you blossom with confidence and advocacy for yourself and for other girls with disabilities. This sport will also bring you joy but also so many obstacles. But I promise you, each small win in this sport will outweigh everything else. The gift of this sport will soon be your foundation of life and love. Girl, you are about to be in for the ride of your life, so strap into your helmet and gloves and get ready!”
