## Caption

Virginia Democrats introduced a new slate of gun safety bills that were considered in our Commonwealth's 2024 legislative session. 

HB 2 would have made it a Class 1 misdemeanor to possess, sell, purchase, manufacture, transport, or transfer assault firearms. The bill defines an assault firearm as a semi-automatic rifle or pistol with a fixed magazine capacity of over 10 rounds or the ability to accept a detachable magazine.

House Bill 2, introduced by Delegate Daniel I. Helmer, passed the House and Senate during the legislative session and was later vetoed by Governor Glenn Youngkin.
