Before the Stonewall Riots sparked the Gay Liberation movement, Fire Island was a vital sanctuary for LGBTQ individuals when living openly was illegal in the U.S. 🏳️‍🌈

Cherry Grove and Fire Island Pines were rare havens where LGBTQ people could gather and express themselves freely. For many, Fire Island was a cultural laboratory where early residents and visitors experimented with theatre and art, shaping and defining LGBTQ culture for decades to come.
