🏳️‍🌈What Should a Mother Look Like?🏳️‍⚧️

❤️Did you know the traditional image of a mother, as perpetuated by mainstream media, does not reflect the diverse realities of queer and transgender individuals? This discrepancy can lead to feelings of exclusion, self-doubt, and a sense of not fitting into the societal mold of what a mother “should” look like.

🧡Queer/trans individuals may encounter numerous barriers and complexities when it comes to family planning and parenthood. They might face legal and bureaucratic hurdles, limited access to fertility treatments or adoption processes that are not LGBTQ+ inclusive, and a lack of support systems tailored to their specific needs.

💛Last year we were proud to host a friends and family advanced screening of the short film “The Butch & The Baby Daddy” @mayanageneviere This is a beautiful story based off of Karleen’s personal memoir (a definite must read “How To Get A Girl Pregnant”) in pursuit of motherhood and serves as a story of fertility, independence and ownership on the diverse path to motherhood. It was such a feel good night of discussion and healing 💞.

💚 In our mission to @bustthestigma this pride, we want to send a gentle reminder that the pursuit to parenthood is not linear. Celebrating diversity and amplifying underrepresented voices is necessary to learn about the full spectrum of parenthood.

💙We invite you to continue to be in community and embrace the power of storytelling and inclusivity. 🏳️‍🌈
To learn more on the multifaceted experiences of motherhood follow the film’s creators Karleen @kpximenez and Barb @barbtaylor100 for whats next and where you too can see the short film!

💜We also shined a spotlight on the themes of gender and body diversity in motherhood with speakers May @drtiredmama and Nadine @mayanageneviere . Since this event we have been proud to continue to be a safe space for 2SLGBTQI+ community to have comfortable fittings and resources in parenthood @mayanageneviere - continue to spread the word!

Let us know should we host another event?

Happy Pride Everyone 🌈❤️
