On June 28, 2008, jayz made history by becoming the first hip-hop artist ever to headline Glastonbury Festival in its then 38-year history.

Located in Somerset, England, the five-day festival hosts a sprawling array of genres: dance, comedy, theater, circus, cabaret and others.

Contrary to the widespread skepticism of hip-hop and its place at the legendary festival, Jay-Z sought to shut down naysayers by breaking down past barriers and proving that hip-hop is a universal staple anywhere in the world.

What are your thoughts on Jay-Z’s impact on the festival? Let us know in the comments.
