In honor of Black History Month we are highlighting different Black athletes, activist, and educators who inspire us! 

This week’s feature is a double feature! Keeth and Erinn Smart! Keeth and Erinn began fencing with the Westbrook Foundation, a non-profit founded by six-time Olympian Peter Westbrook to mentor inner-city kids through the sport of fencing. 

Director of Operations, Alisha Gomez-Shah, shares why the Smart’s are an inspiration in the fencing world. “I remember watching both of them in 2008 - I had only been fencing for a few years and I was just impressed by their skill on the strip. Now knowing what was happening behind the scenes makes me even more impressed with what I saw. The Smart’s show what true resilience looks like in the face of adversity.”
