SHIGUANGO-HOLTZ TO RUN AT ROANOKE: Senior Adrian Shiguango-Holtz will attend Roanoke College in Virginia and study actuarial science. He will also be a member of the Division III cross-country and track teams.

Roanoke was a fit for Shiguango-Holtz because of its proximity to family in the region and the outdoors.

“I enjoy being in the mountains,” Shiguango-Holtz said, “and it is also where I was born.”

As for his area of study, he said classes at Mac inspired him to pursue a career in statistics and finance.

I heard about [actuarial science] in my accounting class, and it sounded like something I could do,” he said. “I enjoyed math enough for it and thought it would be a good path for me.”

Shiguango-Holtz said his participation in athletics was a big part of his Mac experience.

“My favorite memories come from being a part of the cross-country team and watching everyone grow,” Shiguango-Holtz said. “I started running in sixth grade at a club and then did cross country at Lamar [Middle School], so I just continued to run going into high school. I enjoy the runner’s high, and running gives me a sense of accomplishment.”

Shiguango-Holtz leaves a legacy of athletic success as a member of region champion cross-country and track teams.

“My best advice for future Mac students is to be a part of something like a sports team or club and to surround yourself with like-minded people.”
