“I have run many races with NYRR since I started running in 1983 because it brings me joy…every time I have a pause in running, I go back to NYRR to give me the lift and energy to start anew.”

Meet Cherie Aviv, an nyrr philanthropic member and donor from Atlanta who was inspired to donate to NYRR because of our community programs that encourage older adults, youth, and athletes with disabilities to live healthier lives. Cherie volunteers with older adults in Greater Atlanta and sees #NYRRStriders as a model for other programs. 

“It inspired me to think about how what NYRR does could maybe become part of my volunteer outreach here in Atlanta. I was even more impressed that [NYRR] pivoted to virtual options during Covid, keeping older adults active and engaged.”

She’s also impressed with how #RisingNYRR works with youth of different ages and abilities throughout NYC and the nation. 

“[NYRR is] planting the seed that will be with these youths throughout their lives. It only takes one spark, one moment from a coach in the program or completing a race/run, to enhance the lives of youth that will carry them forward to feel they can do anything.”

Cherie has completed 8️⃣ New York City Marathons, two with her son! And she has also completed the Boston, Chicago, Berlin, London, and Marine Corps marathons with no plans to stop anytime soon. 

She hopes to share her love of running with others by giving the gift of an NYRR membership. 

“Giving membership to a friend or family member would be rewarding because I am creating a path for them to be part of the running community.”
