Giornata Mondiale di Preghiera per Vocazioni 2021:
Perché i religiosi si chiamano così?

''Ora, la religione, come sopra abbiamo spiegato, è la virtù con la quale si offre qualche cosa per il culto e il servizio di Dio. Perciò si dicono religiosi per antonomasia coloro che si consacrano totalmente al divino servizio, offrendosi a Dio come in olocausto. Di qui le parole di S. Gregorio: "Ci sono alcuni che non si riservano niente per sé ma immolano a Dio onnipotente il pensiero, la lingua, la vita e tutti i beni ricevuti". Ora, la perfezione dell'uomo consiste nell'unione totale con Dio, come sopra abbiamo visto. Quindi la vita religiosa sta a indicare uno stato di perfezione.''

Now the perfection of man consists in adhering wholly to God, as stated above, and in this sense religion denotes the state of perfection.''
