This week on worldbuilding, my computer is literally melting at the corners. It's not ideal. So, I just have sketches this week because I didn't want to stress it out. Here are some previews of unique features of my world 🥰 Which one is your favorite? Lemme know in the comments!

The Ivory Tower is the home of the Philosopher King and the tallest-human built structure in the world. The Philosopher King often gives magically amplified speeches from the heights of this tower... And while she's be programmed never to feel lonely, who knows if Kalliopeia actually feels connected to her people--alone at the top of the tower?

Chrisig, the Northerners' name for the Upper Continent, is miles above the earth. In addition to its biologically different flora and fauna, it is also home to the Dragons--spirits of fire and wind who sometimes descend upon the humans below in storms for unknown reasons. It's considered a holy land by all human cultures--but who lives there remains up for debate.

Ysse is how the magic system of my world works. The Abyss is the source of all the world's magic--particles of cold dust called Ysse. Only those who drop their eyes into the Abyss can see and therefore control Ysse. Some animals (aside from humans) even ritualistically carve out their eyes to do it. House d'Magnia created quite a stir when they removed the right eyes of their winter-born babies... but all of them have been mages ever since the tradition began. In the south, this practice is frowned upon--though mages are sometimes born without eyes or made through accidents in the winter. Ysse might be strongest in winter but Ysse springs crop up year round. To descend into them is madness--no one returns from the Abyss unchanged.
