On June 12, 1967, Mildred and Richard Loving won a US Supreme Court case, Loving v. Virginia, which legalized interracial marriage nationwide after a nine-year battle. Their case overturned their convictions and the Supreme Court ruled that the anti-miscegenation statute violated the Fourteenth Amendment.
