Thank you teaching_with_teal for sharing your students' Area Name Art with us. What a fun and engaging way to teach area of rectilinear figures!
 
Here's how it works:
• First students draw their names using block letters on grid paper.
• Then, students separate their names into rectangles and number them.
• Students write the formula to find the area of each rectangle and then solve.
•They find the total area of each "rectilinear" figure (aka: the letters of their name)
• Finally they calculate the total area of their name!
