“The transition from high school to university was challenging as I struggled to identify my true passions. Initially set on pursuing psychology, I quickly realized in my first year it wasn’t the perfect fit for me. Through volunteering and doing more research on the programs offered at the U of A, I stumbled upon the Nutrition and Food Science program. This program has allowed me to combine my interests in health, well-being, food and community service work with public health and science. This discovery has been transformative and has enabled me to explore my passions and discover new ones in ways I never could have imagined. I am also proud to have received the Women in STEM Award in 2023. I hope to use my education to shape future food policies and address nationwide food security concerns.”

Myra recently completed her Science degree in Nutrition and Food Science. During her studies she worked as a research assistant for the School of Public Health, researching the impact of climate change on food availability, nutritional status and quality of life in isolated communities. Nutrition degree aside, she absolutely loves instant ramen! #UAlberta
