#SummerXMoody: We hear summer in Chicago is wonderful and public relations student Mary McKenny should know. She’s spending her summer in the Windy City as a public relations intern for Radio Flyer, makers of the little red wagon that we all know and love!

Curious about how she got this internship? She applied through LinkedIn and secured interviews with different teams at radioflyerinc. In just a few weeks, she’s already learned so much about engaging with the Radio Flyer community, coordinating media kits for the press, creating media list databases, and even helping with social media and digital efforts.

“The skills I have learned at Moody have been instrumental in my success in this position! J317 with Tamara Bell equipped me with excellent writing skills, which I now use to complete pitches and written tasks concisely. PR352 with Jeff and Chris Hunt gave me a fresh perspective on what is needed to effectively support a company’s public relations efforts, ensuring their brand is telling their story to their audience.” Mary also credits the Bateman Case Study Competition led by Dr. Tindall for honing her presentation and organizational skills, enabling her to execute campaigns effectively. “Overall, Moody has provided me with invaluable experience in the PR and communications fields, and the skills I have gained here have seamlessly translated into my position today.”

Mary has been watching “Emily in Paris” on Netflix, a show about a fellow PR professional moving to a new city for a job. Life mimicking art! Her supervisor gave her “Smart Brevity” by Jim VandeHei, Mike Allen and Roy Schwartz to help sharpen her writing skills, and she’s enjoying the book.
