1. "During my freshman year of high school, my school hosted a college fair on campus and I discovered UCSC. At first I just liked that the mascot was a banana slug, but after I did research and toured I saw how beautiful the campus was, I knew I wanted to make it my home for the next 4 years. I am a proposed history major. I want to become a history or government teacher after I graduate. I look forward to learning how to be on my own and becoming more independent as I enter college. I have visited UC Santa Cruz a few times and each time I fall more in love with it. I’m really excited to start this part of my life." -abbeycasarez, proposed history major

2. "Santa Cruz instantly felt like home when I stepped onto the campus in April. The people, land and community was beautiful, unique and somewhere I see myself spending the next four years of my life at. The diversity of the student body is incomparable to many colleges, and it seems the best example of the real world. I am especially looking forward to enrolling in classes that involve environmental science, possibly gardening at the Farm, and being in an environment so respectful and attuned to nature. I am excited to be a banana slug and get to learn more about myself, my generation and learn more about sustainable energy so I can incorporate the skills I learn into my life." - anna.eleuterio majoring in neuroscience
