Former USMNT assistant coach Jesse Marsch is now coaching Canada, and got them to the quarterfinals of the Copa América. However, he’s still keeping an eye on the USMNT.

“I would love to say I’m just focused on what we’re doing here in Canada, but obviously, I’m paying attention, as always, to the US men’s national team,” Marsch said during an interview with FOX Sports. 

“And like you, I’m sad. I’m disappointed by the performances, by the lack of discipline. There’s a lot of things that I think we’ve tried to be about, about the game in the U.S., and we’ve always believed in this group of players.”

“Because I’m not there every day, I don’t have my finger on the pulse of exactly what’s going on but, certainly, it’s not what we had expected before this tournament. And somehow, they’ve got to come up with solutions.”

Marsch was an assistant coach of Bob Bradley during the 2010 World Cup and 2011 Gold Cup. 

He was interviewed for the vacant USMNT head coaching job last year. He said he wasn’t treated well and ultimately lost out to Gregg Berhalter.

Marsch then started covering the USMNT and all things American soccer with CBS Sports throughout last year and earlier this year.

The Wisconsin native took over Canada at the end of May. Despite only scoring one goal in three games, they got to the knockout stage where they will face Venezuela.

Canada managed to beat Perú and drew with Chile. Both Perú and Chile got a player sent off in those games.
