It’s me… I’m the problem!

The first day of any trip with my usually ends in some type of mayhem. I can’t help it but knowing that I always come out on top or with a dope experience, I’m going to keep doing it.

We went to Utah and visited the Bonnieville Salt Flats. Now, I already knew we needed a vehicle with 4-wheel drive, hence the jeep Gladiator. This place is known for land speed records because people race and drive recklessly on it all the time. What they don’t tell you is there are soft spots. Stay away from any piles, dark mud or wreckage because there’s likely a soft spot near. You can’t see it until your in it and the wheels won’t spin.

Here’s what we had to do. We dug the mud out from around the tires with our hands, as much as we could. I found pieces of wood near by, clearly people get stuck all the time, and we stuck them behind the tires. We also deflated the back tires just a bit so get extra grip. Take the mats and shove them under the tires as much as you can. This also provides more grip. Put the car in 4-wheel drive and back up slowly straight. Don’t turn the wheels. Once you’re spinning, add some gas and keep going for a while. This will make sure you’re completely out of a soft spot.

I had the time of my life on the Salt Flats and it’s amazing driving and drifting on them. If you get stuck and can’t get out, you can call a tow but it’s expensive.

No matter what, you’ll learn something new and have an experience of a lifetime. Broaden your horizons. You will be alright!
