The superheavyweight women’s classes lift on the final day of the World Equipped Powerlifting Championships – Saturday 19th November.

The 84kg class will lift as two groups – Group B will be in the morning at 9.30am and the A group will lift, live on Eurosport, at 4pm. Incoming World Champions, Canada’s Rhaea Stinn, is the out and out favourite in the 84s. Arguably one of the best benchers in the IPF, Rhaea is the world record holder with an amazing 227kg. She is way more than “just” a bench specialist though: two-time powerlifting world champion, she took the gold medal at The World Games in Alabama this year too.

Ankie Timmers of the Netherlands is second on nominations. A familiar face, she has stood on the podium many times but she is still looking for her first gold medal on the world’s stage to add to her European titles. Even after so many years in the game, she is still improving and pushing her total up. She is on track for her best ever result at world level and we are excited to see what can put up.

In the 84+kg class, it looks like a head to head match up between Norway’s Hildeborg Hugdal and Iceland’s Soley Jonsdottir. On nominations, Soley has the bigger squat and deadlift but Hildeborg has the world record bench at 228.5kg – the biggest 3-lift bench record in the IPF – so this looks like a battle that will go all the way.

This promises to be an exciting start to the last day of competition. Don’t miss it.
