The Equipped Bench Clash will be on the Sunday of the Arnold Sports Festival UK. There is 16,000 euros in the prize pot with a 4,000 euro first prize for the male and female winners and cash prizes all the way down to 5th place. We have a few spots left if you fancy pitting yourself against some of the best benchers in the world, but you will have to be fast as nominations close on 1st August.

Current world champion, Chimedtseren Bataa of Mongolia is the current super heavyweight bench press world champion – he pressed an incredible 367.5kg to win in Kazakhstan. The world record is only a few kilos higher at 375.5kg so will he be targeted a world record as well as a cash prize?

He was third best lifter on formula at World Bench this year but he is up against the man who came first, Ukraine’s Ivan Chuprynko who pressed 292.5kg in the 74kg class in Almaty for 114.44 GL points. Chuprynko will be the one to beat in the men’s competition.

However, the women will compete first and we have an incredible roll call of top flight benchers stuffed full of world champions and world record holders.

German phenom, Sonja-Stefanie Krueger, is nominated right at the top – uncannily also with 114.44 GL points. She benched 210kg at the Euros this year for a junior world record in the 84kg class, only 30 grammes into the class, cheekily weighing in at 76.03kg. This gave her the distinction of bench press junior world records in three weight classes, an incredible achievement.

Right behind in the nominations is Norway’s Hildeborg Hugdal. A legend in the sport, Hildeborg has been at the forefront of equipped lifting for more than 15 years. She has been world champion many times over, junior and open, powerlifting and bench press and she has broken the bench press world record more times than I can mention, most recently with 228.5kg at The World Games in Alabama.
