The Huron’s women's basketball team put up a fight in a battle against the Monroe Trojans during the senior night game on Tuesday. In a whistle-heavy game that was an outright war from start to finish, the River Rats lost in a heartbreaking, yet riveting and physical game, 64-57.

Throughout the first quarter, it was clear that Huron owned the paint on offense and would never let up in that crucial part of this game. Frontcourt play was a large part of its game, especially during that first period from freshman Saige Edmonson.

With that shot mounting the lead for the Rats, senior Elena Leucht did everything possible to keep the Rats in the game through the second quarter. Some impressive and-1 plays boosted the energy for the Rats, and all around team ball kept them afloat in the second quarter, going into halftime tied at 27 with the Trojans.

With the heavy support from their underclassmen teammates in the first half, seniors Aniya Smith and Leucht came out ready to fight for their night. The senior duo both came down with some big time plays on both sides of the ball, their paint dominance along with outside guard and wing play kept the Rats in the game. However, the Rats couldn't overcome some questionable calls and foul trouble in the third and fourth quarter, leading to the loss in what would be the final home game for seniors Leucht, Smith and injured star Angela Rondon-Cardone.
