The moment you walk into The Great Commoner, the glass cases full of desserts and pastries draw your eye, with selections from macarons to tiramisu to croissants. The space itself is very big, with a back seating area where people often eat breakfast and lunch options, and a smaller front area with large windows looking out onto the street; the perfect vibe for studying.

While the menu is a little pricey, their tiramisu was delightful. It was sweet, but not cloying, with a hint of coffee flavor, and a beautiful presentation with clearly defined layers of cream and cake. Another dessert that is exceptional is their croquant vanilla, which is a dense, three layer cake with vanilla, chocolate and hazelnut flavors. Trying to choose a dessert can be very stressful, but the baristas and cooks are happy to help you choose the perfect one.

The coffee is also very delicious, and they offer a wide variety of flavors to try. Their vanilla latte is a good take on the classic drink, the vanilla flavor was not overpowering and the baristas often take the time to put designs in the milk. Along with coffee, they have tea and matcha lattes, the matcha being one of the favorites from the shop. The shop is quiet and bright, and it’s a peaceful place to study while indulging in a fancy dessert or cup of coffee.
