You voted for how we put LED lights in the ice at my rink, so let's do it. 

Nothing great BTW, happens without a great team, and I had the very best helping to make this a reality. 

We had never done this before, so it took a lot of creativity and planning to make the mechanics come together just right. Once we felt good about our plan, we started laying out the lights and getting a feel for what the process would be like when we did it for real. 

Lights needed to be installed on top of the paint, so we started with the basic ice install. Thin layer of ice, then paint, then a few thin layers of ice to seal it in. 

Once that was done, we started laying down the LED lights, getting the connections just right, and getting them sealed in with the sprayers, so they wouldn't move. 

That took all night, so we had to cover the ice so it wouldn't melt the next day, when it was time to start hose flooding. We couldn't use the boom sprayer bc it would have snagged on the LED lights since we were still so thin. 

Eventually it was thick enough to test skating on it, and that was the most surreal feeling. To see it go from an idea to now we're skating on it for real!! 

The zamboni was eventually ready to come on and start flooding, so we did towel drags for hours and hours all night, and I was rewarded by an epic sunrise. With the LED lights going, it was amazing. 

Eventually the public got to come out and see if for the first time. The police department brought out their drone to get some cool shots, and just all around.. the lights added to the experience all season. We were able to change the colors for events, do hockey lines, and just give the public a cool experience they couldn't get anywhere else around here. A truly unique thing. 

Incredibly proud of my team and all the work they put into making this a reality. Many who are not on IG.. and the support from the city for believing in our wacky idea and helping us make it succeed. This was our biggest season yet, and I'm excited to see what's next.
