#WooWho: “I don’t think many people get to experience being in a learning environment with your significant other. Having the same classes, the same responsibilities, and the same schedules has made us a lot more efficient with our time. There are days we’re together all day, between class and taking care of our daughter. It’s pushed us to find the right balance of time with our daughter, and time alone. You can’t really push anything off onto the other person because they have the same set of responsibilities as you. This journey has made us more aware of ourselves as students, what it means to be in a learning space again. … We met in the usnavy. We were both Farsi intelligence analysts, working in Augusta. Before becoming MPA students, we actually both came to the ppiaprogram Junior Summer Institute (JSI) at Princeton. Renee did the program first in 2016. She was so impressed by this place she told me I (William) needed to do it, too. So, I came in 2018. We discussed grad school and said that we would love for it to be here. We applied together, crossed our fingers, and we both got into wilson_school. We are very much late comers to knowing that this world — graduate school, Princeton — even existed. That’s what JSI did for us. It showed us what graduate school can do for you, and we are forever indebted to that program. … When people ask us for a fun fact, we have the same one: We are both Farsi linguists, speaking Persian Farsi. William is into complex systems theory in an amateur way. He also knows a lot about birds; he is a wealth of random knowledge. As for Renee, she is an aspiring gamer. She wants to like video games, but they stress her out. She also once auditioned for America’s Next Top Model. She did a whole Tina Turner, Proud Mary Routine.
