If you have a windowsill and produce from the grocery store, you can garden. It really is that simple! Kitchen scrap gardening is so much fun for both kids and adults. We have the full activity at the activities link in our profile but check out this beautiful progress from @thechildisthecurriculum and see our basic instructions below!

🥬✨1 week update: green onions grew completely back, carrot greens almost ready for salad, beet greens popped, grapefruit seedlings look happy, celery greens popping, and 4 of the 8 garlic 🧄 cloves are getting tall y’all! All from store bought organic produce. Everything in the window indoors ☺️👍🏼 Girls love it 🤩 #kitchenscrapgardening

Materials:
Soil
Container
Toothpicks
Oranges, lemons, limes, sweet potatoes, avocados, carrots, beets, ginger, and others

Method:
For citrus seeds, place 3-4 seeds in soil about one inch below the surface.

For sweet potatoes, ginger, or avocado, spear with a few toothpicks so it can rest partly submerged in water. Roots will begin to grow, then transplant into a container with soil.

For beets, carrots, or parsnips, cut off most of the root, aside from the top inch or so. Rest on pebbles in a tray of water until new greens start to sprout from the top. Then transplant into soil.

For all, place in a sunny window. Some greens can be eaten and others will simply grow into fascinating plants with a great story of how they started!
