Death, taxes and Steel City losing to Czarni Jalso. Some certainties seem inescapable. 

For the first time in its three-year history, Steel City NXT will not be playing in the U23 Illinois State Cup final, after losing 4-1 to Czarni Jaslo U23 in the semi-final. 

With this defeat, the Joliet curse remains unbroken - no team in Illinois’s third largest city has lifted the trophy in 105 years. 

Steel City sends a warm thank you to Claudio Frigo (cfrigoo) , President of the Illinois State Soccer Association and Boris Vukovich (bovuk7) Illinois State Cup Commissioner for staging another excellent tournament. 

Steel City NXT will play Chicago House AC Monday, in a match that has title implications in the U23 Northern Illinois Soccer League. 

NXT can be proud of their three all-time appearances in the Illinois State Cup. NXT has two second place finishes in ‘22 and ‘23 and a semi-final appearance in ‘24.
