Girls trip, baby edition! 

Last month I drove from CO to WA alone with my tiny human to link up with one of my best friends for a PNW road trip. Looking back on photos from our adventures, I am SO glad that I didn’t let my intimidation about all the unknowns of such a big adventure stop me from going. 

For those of you who don’t know, I met Indi on the very first day of my PCT thru hike in 2022. She was wearing a yellow Vegemite bucket hat and I knew immediately that we would be friends. What I could not predict is that we would go on to spend nearly every day hiking/camping together for the next 150 days. While we chat all the time, Indi lives in Australia so I have only seen her once since we parted ways in the fall of 2022. Getting to spend a few weeks together on a big adventure was such a treat. 

A common story I hear from new moms is that their friends stop calling or inviting them to do things and, honestly, it breaks my heart. I feel so fortunate to have friends who lovingly refer to themselves as “Auntie” even though there’s no blood relation… so lucky to have friends willing to plan adventures around naps and early bedtimes… It’s given me the extra motivation to see what I’m capable of and to get out of the house when life as a new mom has felt overwhelming. It’s been an anchor for me and my mental health in this last year.

I know every parent/situation is different and it would be impossible to speak for everyone so what I’ll say is this, sometimes supporting your friend who just had a baby is as simple as continuing to invite them to do things.
